The Golden Rock Railway Workshop here has bagged the Southern Railway Green Shield Award for the fourth consecutive time for 2012-13 in recognition of its environmental protection measures, its Chief Workshop Manager P. Mahesh said on Friday.

Mr. Mahesh was speaking at the 58{+t}{+h}Railway Week celebrations that was marked by distribution of awards to workshop staff at all levels in appreciation of their performance.

Listing the achievements of the workshop in 2012-13 fiscal, Mr. Mahesh said it had turned out 924 passenger coaches, including 144 air-conditioned compartments, that had come for periodic overhaul as against the Railway Board target of 846.

The carriage body shop had completed 136 coaches for heavy corrosion repair during 2012-13 as compared to 108 coaches in the previous fiscal.

It had carried out periodic overhaul of 136 diesel locomotives.
