Udhagamandalam: Tea factories in both the corporate and bought leaf sectors did well in the final tea tasting session of the 6th edition of The Golden Leaf India Award-Southern Tea Competition (TGLIA:STC) held at Dubai on March 9 and 10.

According to the convener, TGLIA-STC, N. Dharmaraj, 60 shortlisted teas, which had got through the first and second level of screening held here recently were evaluated by an international panel comprising tasters and major buyers like Kurush Bharucha (UAE), Mohsin Saify (Pakistan), Pami Tibb, Kazakhastan, Richard Smyth (UAE), Shaun Gough (Saudi Arabia) and Yahya Beyad (U.K.). Kanan Devan Hills Plantations Company Private Ltd; Harrisons Malayalam Ltd; Joonktolee Tea & Industries Ltd;, Rousdonmullai Tea Estates Private Ltd;, Coonoor Tea Estates Company Ltd;, United Nilgiri Tea Estates Company Ltd; and Vigneshwar Estates Tea Factory won three awards each.

Darmona Tea Industry, Waterfall Estates Private Limited and Malankara Plantations Ltd; won two awards each and Sri Iyyan Tea Industries.

Bombay Burmah Trading Corporation Ltd; and Haileyburia Tea Estates Ltd; got an award each. The certificates were distributed by Basudeb Banerjee, chairman, Tea Board of India and Mohsin Saify, Tapal Tea, Pakistan.
