The Madras High Court on Friday granted interim stay of a Tamil Nadu G.O. according sanction to the Public Prosecutor, Virudhunagar district, for preferring a complaint against DMDK president Vijayakant for a speech defaming the Chief Minister.

Mr. Vijayakant made the speech at the Desabanthu Maidan in Virudhunagar on August 3 last year. According to the G.O. of November 16, as the speech defamed the Chief Minister, sanction was being accorded to the Public Prosecutor for making a complaint under Section 199 of the Cr.P.C.

The DMDK leader sought quashing of the G.O.

Justice N.Paul Vasanthakumar admitted the petition and granted interim stay.
