SC/ST students have urged the State government to prevail upon higher educational institutions in Tamil Nadu to comply with its order on waiver of tuition fee, special fee, examination fee and other necessary fees under free education scheme.

According to a representation from the students, details of the government orders on fee waiver for undergraduate and postgraduate courses irrespective of parental income must be included in the prospectus of government colleges, aided colleges, self-financing colleges and universities.

At present, they could enjoy the benefit of scholarship scheme, applicable for those whose annual parental income does not exceed Rs.2 lakh, since it is explained well in the prospectus. Likewise, the details on Government’s fee waiver must be published in the prospectus, and the institutions must apprise students of the methodology for availing the benefits, they have emphasised, explaining that the enormous allocations made by Central and State Governments under the free education scheme will otherwise go unutilised.
