The bankers should give crop loans to farmers in time, said the Collector, T.N. Hariharan, here on Wednesday.

Speaking at a district consultative committee meeting with bankers, he said that the banks should expedite disbursal of loans with subsidies not only to farmers but to women self-help groups, weavers, students and District Industries Centre (DIC) or Tamil Nadu Adi Dravidar Housing and Development Corporation (TAHDCO) approved entrepreneurs and reach the target by examining the pending applications. The bankers should also ensure that the crops were insured against natural calamity.

Besides, the Election Commission of India had decided to rope in bankers for the purpose of posting them as election observers during the next parliamentary elections. So, the bank authorities should also send a list of interested persons for election work to the election tahsildar.

Indian Overseas Bank’s Chief Regional Manager Thirugnanasambandam, Assistant General Manager of the National Bank for Agriculture Rural Development J. Subramanian, Joint Director of Agriculture Subbaiah, IOB’s Manager Sulaiman, DIC manager Santhakumar were present.
