Residents block road demanding the arrest of the bus crew

NAMAKKAL: Two schoolchildren were mowed down by a private bus near here on Tuesday. The police said Vinitha (11) in Class V and Ramya (nine) in Class III of the panchayat union elementary school in N. Puthupatti, were returning home from the school, when the accident took place.

Protesting against rash driving, residents blocked traffic on Namakkal - Tiruchy Main Road demanding the immediate arrest of the bus crew.

They alleged that many bus drivers were violating traffic rules.

They demanded the police to take stringent action against the violators of road rules. Superintendent of Police Deepak M. Damor and revenue officials rushed to spot and pacified the agitators.

Traffic on the road was affected for more than 30 minutes, the police said.
