Days after a dismembered body of a 13-year-old girl was found close to the railway track near E. Pudur here, the case has been transferred to the Crime Branch CID for further investigation.
This is the second time in a fortnight that the case has been transferred – first from the Government Railway Police (GRP) to the Tiruchi City Police and now to the CB-CID.
An order transferring the case to the CB-CID was issued by the Director General of Police, police sources here said. The City Police, which took over investigation from the GRP, would now hand over the case diary (CD) files to the CB-CID following the transfer.
The girl, who was studying in a city school, went missing after school hours on August 13 and her dismembered body was found near the railway track the next morning.
On a complaint from the victim’s mother, the Palakkarai police had booked a ‘girl missing’ case. After the body was found, the GRP registered a case of death under suspicious circumstances. It was transferred to the City Police on August 17 which also treated it as a case of suspicious death.
Mystery still shrouds the death of the girl with four special teams of the City Police conducting enquiries with 70 persons in connection with the case till now, say sources.
Muslim organisations are demanding the arrest of the culprits involved in the case.
Given the mysterious circumstances in which the girl was found dead, the city unit of the Communist Party of India urged the State government to conduct a judicial inquiry into the case. The Makkal Marumalarchi Peravai had sought a CB-CID probe into the case and handed over a memorandum in this connection to the District Collector a few days ago.
The death had raised lot of suspicions, it further said.
