SALEM: The Salem District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has directed a public sector general insurance company to pay a compensation of Rs. 25,000 to a medical insurance policy holder.
Selvanathan of AN Mangalam village took medical insurance for himself, his wife and mother. His wife Santhana Mary underwent treatment for her neck pain at a hospital in 2002 and filed a claim for Rs. 36,891 towards the medical expenses. But the firm refused the claim. Aggrieved, the policy holder moved the consumer court by filing a case through Tamil Nadu Consumer Vigilance Council Chairman S. Selvam.
After hearing the arguments, Sathyamurthi directed the firm to pay Rs. 36,891 with 6 per cent interest and a compensation of Rs. 25,000. He directed the firm to pay a sum of Rs. 2,000 towards legal expenses.
