Udhagamandalam: Officials and elected representatives should be in a state of preparedness for any eventuality, said the Nilgiris Collector Anandrao V.Patil while presiding over a seminar on Disaster Risk Management organized by the district administration here on Wednesday.

Pointing out that the South West Monsoon had already become active in some parts of the country, he said that dealing with various exigencies would become easier if we are ready for the worst.

Stating that officials should focus on pre-disaster preparations, he said that it was more important than taking damage control measures.

The main objective of disaster management programmes was prevention of loss of lives. In tune with this, high priority should be accorded to timely evacuation of people from disaster-prone areas and keeping relief centres ready.
