G.D. Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Coimbatore, has won the overall rolling trophy for the best school in the annual inter-school competitions for the Salim Ali Memorial Trophy for nature awareness.

The competitions conducted on January 6 by the Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON) was attended by 2,000 students from 43 schools.

Of which, 135 students from 18 schools won the prizes.

Kongu Velalar Matriculation School, Karumathampatti, bagged the second place while SSVM School, Vellalore, and Kadri Mills Higher Secondary School, Ondipudur, got the next two positions.

A release from senior scientist P. Pramod of SACON said that Manav, a Standard VI student of Vidyavanam school, Anaikatti, won the title, Young Bird Watcher of the year. The prize distribution function will be held on the occasion of the Salim Ali Memorial Lecture on January 18 at Champion Hall, Central Academy of Forest Sciences, Forest College, in R.S. Puram at 10.30 a.m.

The lecture will be delivered by Dr.Balakrishna Pisupathi, chairman of National Bio Diversity Authority.
