Civic administration yet to initiate action

SALEM: After streets, now medians on the road have become places for disposing garbage in the city. The median on Omalur Main Road near Sagoserve is being used for dumping such waste.

Road users claimed that a few commercial establishments were dumping waste on the little space available on the median during night hours. The waste dumped on the median spread to the road and was causing inconvenience to the road users.

They had complained to the Salem Corporation. But the civic administration was yet to remove the garbage and initiate an action against the commercial establishments which clandestinely disposing off the waste on the median, they said.

When asked, Corporation officials said the garbage would be removed and steps would be taken to prevent people from dumping garbage on the median.

However, road users suggested that green cover should be provided to the median and it should be fenced to restrict people dumping waste. The National Highways Authority of India here also had not initiated any stringent action against those who had been misusing the place in the median.

It also had to take concrete measures to provide green cover to the median, the locals charged.
