In Kodambakkam, Pulianthope, says report

Chennai: The report of Advocate Commissioner S. Natarajan on the status of garbage clearance in Kodambakkam and Pulianthope zones of the Chennai Corporation has listed several localities where the service was inefficient during the second week of September.

Mr. Natarajan filed his report before the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission on Friday. He has included quotes from residents in Kodambakkam zone, who were affected when Neel Metal Fanalca took over solid waste management operations in Chennai on August 25.

His report said that some residents found improvement in garbage clearance after the first week of September. During his field visits to various localities from September 11 to 14, Mr. Natarajan said he had found garbage piles in Krishna Street, Thirumurthy Street, Pondy Bazaar, Rajamannar Salai and Arunachalam Road (all in Kodambakkam zone).

Irregular garbage clearance and lack of bins were the main problems the Advocate Commissioner found during the visits.

Mr. Natarajan also inspected parts of Pulianthope zone, although garbage clearance here has not been handed over to the private firm.

He has recommended clearing of waste in K.P. Park, a north Chennai locality where several economically-weak families reside.

Advocate Commissioner V. Suresh has filed his report on the status in Ice House and Adyar zones.

The next hearing will be held on October 3.
