A gang hacked a man, who used to sell ganja in the past, at Sourashtrapuram here on Tuesday morning. The attack victim, R. Senthil Pandi (33), has been admitted to a private hospital with bleeding injuries on his head.

Police sources said the gang attacked him with machetes probably suspecting him to be a police informer who exposed their ganja peddling, which led to the seizure of 26 kg of the narcotic substance by the Karuppayoorani police here on Saturday.

Udaya alias Udayasooriyan of Vanidyur had a feud with Senthil Pandi in the past after the police had arrested him in a ganja case, Inspector of Police (Karuppayoorani) T. Balamurugan said.

The police are on the lookout for Udaya, Sonai and Load Murugan and a few others over the Saturday’s seizure of ganja.

While the police arrested four persons travelling in two cars in which they were smuggling the contraband, nine others escaped.

Senthil Pandi is an accused in the murder of S. Mathiyazhagan of Vandiyur on the southern bank of the Vaigai near Kuruvikaran Salai on May 27.
