CHENNAI: A gang of four involved in chain-snatching offences was arrested by the Neelankarai police here on Thursday.

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (Thoraipakkam) K.N. Murali, a special team led by Inspector S. Sankaralingam arrested R. Ramesh (24) of Kannagi Nagar. The accused confessed to having snatched the gold chains of four senior citizens last year in Neelankarai, Semmancheri and Thoraipakkam areas, along with his friends V.Vaidyalingam (24), V.Ramu (23) and A.Karthik (24) of Semmancheri.

About 27 sovereigns of jewellery were recovered from the four accused. Two motorcycles stolen from Kancheepuram district and used to commit the offences were seized. The accused were produced in an Alandur court and remanded to judicial custody, Mr. Murali added.
