Thanjavur: The chairman of the presidium of MDMK and Tiruchi MP, L. Ganesan on Monday alleged that the Union Minister of State for Finance, S.S. Palani Manickam was trying to create a wedge between the people of his village Kannathankudi Keelaiyur in Orathanadu taluk in the district by fielding a DMK candidate against his wife Kamala Ganesan, who is contesting for the panchayat president post.

He and his wife, Kamala Ganesan, told presspersons here that the people elected Mr. Ganesan as president of the panchayat for the past thirty-five years. This year the panchayat has been reserved for women. So, wanted his wife to contest the election.

The candidate now fielded by the DMK did not attend the meeting of nearly 400 people of the village in which it was decided that Kamala should contest for the president post.
