VILLUPURAM: A sum of Rs 88 crore has been sanctioned to refinance the Primary Agricultural Cooperative Credit Societies to extend crop and jewel loans to the farmers, according to R.Palanisamy, District Collector.

In a statement here the Collector stated that the fund was infused into the societies’ kitty as per the recommendations of the Vaithiyanathan Committee. The Collector stated that the outstanding farm loans that stood at Rs 259 crore as on March 31, 2009 went up to Rs 388 crore as on December 31, 2009 in the district. — Special Correspondent
