TUTICORIN: The Corporation had sanctioned a sum of Rs. 8.02 crore for carrying out housing and infrastructure components under Integrated Housing Slum Development Programme in the areas of corporation limit, said the Mayor R. Kasthuri Thangam on Thursday at an emergency meeting.
It was classified into two phases namely the housing development with a sum of Rs. 4.81 crore and the infrastructure development to the tune of Rs. 3.21 crore, the Mayor said.
Under the housing component work, thatched and tiled roofs would be taken up for conversion into reinforced cement concrete roof for a number of 500 houses in the corporation limit.
The projects on developing road infrastructure, underground drainage facilities, solid waste management, community centres, informal market and streetlights, open drainage facilities would be taken up in the infrastructure development, she said.
Eight slum areas including Polepettai, Kandasamipuram, Sundaravelpuram, Krishnarajapuram, Mangalapuram, Cruzpuram, Threspuram and K.V.K. Nagar had been selected for carrying out development works under the integrated housing slum development, the Mayor added.
The State Government had sanctioned an outlay of Rs. 30 lakh on an infrastructure gap filling fund for augmenting the Rajaji Park, Roche Park and Kakkan Park and the corporation had sanctioned a fund of Rs. 25 lakh for augmenting parks.
