The full fleet of 12-car electrical multiple units (EMUs) in Chennai Railway Division will be made available for commuter use by the end of February, according to Divisional Railway Manager S. Anantharaman. Talking to reporters here on Saturday after throwing open ‘Mother Express' for public viewing at Kancheepuram East (Old) railway station, the Divisional Railway Manager said Chennai Division had 69 rakes of EMUs, of which 15 were 12-car units and the rest were eight and nine-car units. Operation of the entire 15 rakes of 12-car units was affected by technical snags such as wear in wheels. Now, 11 rakes of 12-car units were made available for use and the rest would be put on rail by next month.
