A teen-aged accused, who escaped from police custody while being taken for judicial remand, was re-arrested early on Thursday morning within 12 hours. Police said Poomurugan (19) was being taken to Madurai Central Prison after the Judicial Magistrate Court in Paramakudi remanded him in judicial custody, when he escaped from police custody at the Paramakudi bus stand on Wednesday evening.

However, in a swift move, a police team, after questioning his parents, re-arrested him at Ponnaiyapuram near Paramakudi in the early hours of Thursday – within 12 hours of his escape. Later, he was remanded in judicial custody.
