Freedom fighters remembered at salt satyagraha memorial

Members of Tamil Nadu Pradesh Congress Seva Dal and those of affiliated organisations of the Congress paid floral tributes at the salt satyagraha memorial near Central Bus Stand, from where freedom fighter and former Governor-General C. Rajagopalachari commenced his salt satyagraha march to Vedaranyam on April 13, 1930.

K.S. Soundaram, former Member of Parliament; Logambal, former MLA, and Valampuri and Rasuthenkondar, freedom fighters, participated in the event organised to commemorate the 84th anniversary of the historic march. S.T.Manohar, president, Tiruchi-Vedaranyam Salt Satyagraha Yatra Committee, and additional chief organiser of Tamil Nadu Pradesh Congress Seva Dal, presided over the programme. They also took the pledge to uphold national integration and unity.
