Free schemes implemented to help the poor, says Minister

Free schemes are implemented to improve the standard of living of the poor, said R.Vaithilingam, Minister for Housing and Urban Development, on Saturday.

He distributed free fans, mixers and grinders to 3,149 people at various places in the district. He distributed the articles to 451 persons at Sankaranathan Kudikadu in Orathanadu taluk, 411 persons at Periyakarambankottai panchayat in Orathanadu taluk, 1,408 persons at Vallam town panchayat near Thanjavur, and 879 persons at Perumbuliyur in Thiruvaiyaru taluk.

To improve literacy, free uniform, textbooks and cycles are being distributed. Gold for mangalyam is another scheme implemented with the view to improving female literacy.

K.Baskaran, Collector, M.Rangasamy and M.Rathnasamy, MLAs, and Amutharani Ravichandran, chairperson, district panchayat council, participated.
