PUDUKOTTAI: A chain of free health camps are under way in ten coastal villages of Pudukottai, exclusively for the benefit of senior citizens.

The camp, sponsored by the Canadian Red Cross, is being organised by the Pudukottai district branch of Indian Red Cross Society till February 13.

In a press release issued here, D. Raja Mohamad, Honorary secretary of Pudukottai District Red Cross Society, said that the camps are being organised at Muthukuda, Arasanagaripattinam, Meemisal, South and North Pudukudi, Ammapattinam, Athipattinam, Ponnagaram and Prathabiramanpattina.

Mr. Raja Mohamad said that the child health care, livelihood assistance and economic uplift of the women self-help groups are some of the main activities of the society in the coastal villages of the district.

Coastal villages

This time, the health camps are being organised with an eye on the elderly people aged above 50 years. “In coastal villages, not all the elderly people receive the due care they need,” he said.

Health officials from Aranthangi and doctors from the Government hospitals in the Aranthangi division of the Health Department will screen the patients and extend the clinical care, he added.

The camps would be held at Ammapattanam and Athippattanam on February 4; Muthukuda on February 11; Meemisal on February 12; and Prathabiramanpattinam on February 13.
