The free goat scheme of the Government will first be introduced in Athipalayam Panchayat in Sircar Samakulam Panchayat Union and then in A. Nagoor in Pollachi North Panchayat Union, said Collector M. Karunakaran here recently.
At a gram sabha meeting held at Athipalayam Panchayat, Mr. Karunakaran said that the beneficiaries would be selected by village level beneficiary selection committee. The selected families would get four goats each (sheep by choice). The beneficiaries should be landless agricultural workers, a permanent resident of the panchayat and in the age group of 19 to 60 years. They should not own any goat or cow at present. Preference would be given for women.
None of the family members of the beneficiary should be an employee of the Central or State Government or Government undertakings or PSUs. Disbursement would be in the form of Rs. 2,500 per goat for four goats and Rs. 500 per goat for maintenance. The total disbursement would be Rs. 12,000.
The last date for submitting application would be September 14. On September 15, the list would be published at the gram saba meetings.
