TIRUCHI: The Centre for Youth Development and Studies, Bharathidasan University, has invited applications from eligible candidates holding any graduate degree for attending the three-month free coaching for UPSC Group A examinations starting May, with funding from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

Candidates from Scheduled Caste, Other Backward Castes and Minority communities will receive a monthly stipend (Rs. 700 and Rs. 225 for outstation and local students respectively), S. Iyampillai, Centre Coordinator, said in a press release issued here on Friday

Aspiring candidates must make their bio-data with details of educational qualification, community, family income and nativity reachable to the Coordinator, Centre for Youth Development, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchi – 620 024, before April 19, 2008. Those who have already attended the programme need not apply, Dr. Iyyampillai said.

Summer courses

In another statement, the University’s Institute for Entrepreneurship and Career Development (IECD) has announced special summer courses on Basic Computer Applications, Tally – 9, DTP, Photoshop, C, C ++, Cell Phone Servicing, Key Board, and Guitar for student and non-student youth / house wives and school and college going students with a minimum qualification of pass / fail in 10th / Plus Two.

A pass in standard V is the minimum qualification for attending courses on Basic Computer Applications, Photoshop, Key Board and Guitar courses.

These courses would be conducted at IECD, Khajamalai Campus, from April 14 onwards on all week-days between 7.30 a.m. and 8.00 p.m. Institute Director K. Parthasarathy said 50 per cent scholarship would be offered for SC/ST candidates, 25 per cent for MBC and BC candidates, and 100 per cent for physically disabled candidates. Fifty per cent fee concession would be given to university teaching / non-teaching staff and their wards.

Students who have failed in one subject in Plus Two can undergo any of the certificate course at the IECD for securing admission for UG degree in affiliated colleges / distance education programme of the university in the forthcoming academic year upon successful completion of the course.

For applications and prospectus, Rs. 50 must be paid in the form of demand draft from any nationalised bank in favour of the Director, IECD, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchi – 23, payable at SBI, Tiruchi.
