Hassle-free ride from and to Madurai highway soon
The four-lane approach road linking the town with the Tuticorin-Madurai four-lane highway (National Highway 45 B), currently being layed, is expected to be opened to traffic by December, according to highways department sources.
Once completed, the 3.6 km stretch, which will cost an estimated Rs 11.6 crore, is expected to ease traffic congestion on Ettayapuram Road, the sources said here on Monday.
The project involves the construction of a minor bridge, three culverts and the median. Quality control officials inspected the works recently, the sources added.
L. Samuel, former president of the Tuticorin Lorry Owners Association, said heavy vehicles were parked on either side of the Ettayapuram Road leading to traffic congestion.
The lorries could park at Jothi Nagar instead, he suggested.
There is a proposal to widen the Palayamkottai Road, highways department sources added.
