More than 200 universities, colleges to take part

TIRUCHI: Regarded as the futuristic platform for expression, Pragyan `06, the four-day extravaganza unfolding on Saturday at the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchi, (NIT-T), the pride of Rock City, has assumed an international stature in its very second year of inception, to the delight of the organisers.

Pragyan, says M. Chidambaram, Director, NIT-T, will see the participation of more than 200 universities and colleges across the globe. Students have already received entries from 60 countries for the fiesta, and expect the total number of participants to touch the 3,500 mark. The organisers, in fact, had an exciting inkling of worldwide participation during the first week of this month when 500 teams from 50 countries took part in Bytecode - the online programming contest. The campus has turned into a melting pot of culture, with teams from USA, Russia, Austrialia, China, Brazil, Germany, and Pakistan, celebrating technology! A massive cumulative cash prize of Rs. 4.06 lakh is locked in the winner's vault, informs Richin Bhandavat, Student Chairman for Pragyan '06.

Over 22 events in various disciplines await thinking technologists. Events such as Turing machine - software contest, D sign - Design Contest, and Electronique - circuit modelling form a wide spectrum that covers the entire engineering arena.

Anveshanam, a paper presentation contest, welcomes novel theories and proposals from inventors, `Principia' will test fundamental skill in elementary sciences events, and Mathematical Modeling is among the New Year gifts. Likewise, Fuelbird is the car racing contest, while Aviskar, a working model contest. `Adventure' will bring out the best in computers from a team as they go through web designing, debugging, hacking and software development.

Contraptions will see the teams `skilfully' complicate matters adding as many gadgets as they can to perform a simple task like lighting a bulb.

Robovigyan will represent the future of robotics. Also watch out for hard talk on First Leaf under Arthashastra - The Young Parliament.

Adding to the excitement are stock market simulations and resource management scenarios on the lines of Dalal Street and Samadhan. `Infotainment' constitutes a 3D laser show, pyrotechnic show, and a talk show with Prakash, Belawadi along with screening of his widely acclaimed movie and National Award Winner.
