TIRUVANNAMALAI: Four persons were killed and 15 others injured when crackers stored in a three-storeyed building on Mogulpura street here exploded on Thursday night. The building caved in and 25 persons were trapped.

The building was owned by cracker stockist Baba. While he managed to escape, the fate of his family members is not known. Three bodies were recovered from the debris while 15 persons, who were injured, have been shifted to the Government Hospital here.

Two families lived on the first and second floor. Fire tenders were pressed into service.

The narrow street and the heavy crowds on the way to the site of the incident hampered the rescue operations.
