To clear backlog and expedite cases related to accident victim compensation claims and women harassments, four new courts would function on the District Court premises here from February 16.
Addressing reporters on Tuesday, Principal District Judge S. Baskaran said that 500 Motor Vehicle Accident Compensation Cases (MCOP) were filed every month in the courts and the new court would help in expediting cases and provide compensation to the victims on time. He said that two subordinate courts would hear cases related to claim of injured persons and help in speedy disposal. As around 200 cases related to women harassment and dowry cases were filed.
Through Lok Adalat, 1,050 petitions were cleared and compensation to the tune of Rs. 22.71 crore was disposed off. A mega Lok Adalat would be held on February 23, as 500 cases were planned to be disposed off, he added.
