KANCHEEPURAM: Four persons were killed and 16 others injured in a road accident involving a private stage carrier and a goods carrier on the Chennai-Bangalore National Highway near Sriperumbudur on Friday afternoon.

According to police, the mishap took place around 2. 15 p.m. when the private bus driver attempted to overtake the goods carrier proceeding towards Bangalore from Chennai. The left portion of the bus, up to rear wheel, was torn apart in the impact killing four persons on the spot and injuring 16 other passengers. The bus was proceeding towards Vandavasi from Chennai via Kancheepuram.

Ambulance and other rescue vehicles were rushed to the spot and injured passengers were shifted to Arignar Anna Government Hospital, Sriperumbudur. The police have registered a case and are investigating.
