SALEM: Four persons were killed and 19 others sustained injuries in various road accidents in Salem on Sunday and Monday.

At an accident near Karipatti, two died on the spot when the bus in which they were travelling lost control and hit a roadside tree. The Karipatti police said that the victims were residents of Vaithyanathapuram and nearby villages in Perambalur district and was on a tour to Mettur and Tirupati.

The two killed were identified as Koothappan (60) and Arumugam (55), both residents of Vaithyanathapuram village.

As many as 19 persons, including 10 women, who suffered injuries were taken to the Salem Government Medical College Hospital. Of them four were treated as out patients and the rest were admitted to the hospital. The condition of a few persons was said to serious.

In another accident, Nallammal (75) of Narasothipatti was killed when a car hit her near Reddiyur on Sunday. In yet another accident, a temple priest Senthil Nathan (63) of Kondalampatti was killed when a lorry hit his motorcycle. He died on the spot.
