CHENNAI: The Arumbakkam police on Saturday arrested four men on charges of kidnap and rape of two Delhi-based women. The victims were freed on Saturday, police said.

Police sources said the arrested, Dineshkanth (26), Rubeshkanth (23), Kuber Raja (28) and Mohan (29), along with few others had abducted the two women, along with their aunt and driver from Vadapalani at knife-point on Friday night. They were taken to a lodge in Tindivanam.

The accused had acquired phone numbers of the family members from the women and had called them to demand a ransom of Rs 20 lakh.

Following specific information to the city police on the kidnap, a special team was formed to apprehend the accused. Accordingly, a trap was laid and Dineshkanth and Rubeshkanth were caught when they went to 5th avenue in Anna Nagar here on Saturday night to collect the ransom amount. The duo led police to the other two men involved in the incident.

Investigation is under way to apprehend more people involved in the crime.
