Four persons — three Sri Lankan nationals and an Indian — were arrested for smuggling three kilograms of gold worth about Rs. 90 lakh at the Chennai airport on Friday.

According to an official press release, based on intelligence inputs, customs officials intercepted four passengers and brought them for questioning. The passengers stated that they did not have any dutiable goods.

The officials then searched their baggage and found the gold. The passengers were identified as Mohamed Rishony, Karunanithy Krishnaveni, Ganesh Rajah Swarna Latha and Abdul Wahab Akbar Sabia Banu.

Further investigations are on, the release added.
