A city court recently sentenced four persons, including a woman, to nine years’ rigorous imprisonment for strangulating a woman and robbing her of jewellery and cash.

On October 21, 2009, Subashree (23), the wife of an IT employee, was at her house in R V Nagar along with her daughter. On the pretext of inviting her for a function, Mutharasi, a friend of Subashree, came in along with her husband, Saravanan, and two others, Vinodh and Anand.

The four persons were charged under Sections 307 (attempted murder) and 394(voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) of Indian Penal Code.

XIX Additional Sessions Judge Kayalvizhi sentenced the four to nine years’ imprisonment. She also imposed a fine of Rs. 30,000 on each of them, of which Rs. 25,000 would go to the victim's family.
