Four persons were arrested here on Sunday in a case of dacoity reported on June 5. Two and a half sovereigns of gold, which was allegedly taken away from a person residing at Naduchekarakudi under Thattaparai police limits, has been recovered from the gang.

With intimidating weapons, the gang bullied K. Mari, the complainant, in his house and extorted the valuables, Superintendent of Police M. Durai said.

He was their intended target since he wore a 30-sovereign gold chain. Based on a complaint from the victim, Thattaparai police filed a case. The accused were chased and nabbed after they tried to escape from the police team, which was involved in vehicle check at Thattaparai.

The SP lauded the team’s efforts for having acted swiftly in the arrest and recovery of stolen property. The arrested were V. Ambedraj alias Ilayaraja (26) of North Street, Melmandhai, M. Kanagaraj (30), North Colony, South Sinthalakattai, A. Mariappan (45) of Nadutheru, Lakshmipuram and K. Thangavel (30) of Melmandhai. Hunt is on to nab four more accomplices, who are at large now, the SP said.
