Adopts resolution at seminar in Nagercoil

Nagercoil: The Federation of Non-Governmental Organisations here has urged the Government to sign a memorandum of understanding with United Nations Organisations on Convention Against Torture, 1984.

A resolution to this effect was unanimously passed at a State-level seminar on `Campaign against torture and together against torture' organised by the Rural Uplift Centre in co-operation with various fora , here on Monday.

In another resolution, the federation condemned the assault, including sexual, against girls, women, Dalits, backward and most backward class people. Even as there was a law prohibiting employment of child labour in commercial establishments, they were still employed. In Kanyakumari district, one could find child labourers in brick kilns, restaurants, lodges, coir units, fishery, beedi and cashew factories. A.V. Bellarmine, MP, MLAs Jeyapal of Colachel and Leema Rose of Thiruvattar, and federation president Maria James spoke.
