Submits memorandum to Mayor

The Madurai District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association (MADITSSIA) has appealed to Mayor V. V. Rajan Chellappa to create basic infrastructure facilities in the city to facilitate the entry of big industrial units.

In a memorandum submitted to the Mayor, its president V. S. Manimaran insisted that a permanent exhibition centre was also imperative for the industrial growth of Madurai and southern districts. The association called for expediting the Ring Road project between Samayanallur and Uthangudi and steps to initiate metro rail project. The memorandum said that bridges were necessary to decongest traffic at Goripalayam, Periyar bus stand and Palanganatham areas. The city roads should be developed to international standards. The whole of Madurai, including the newly included areas to the Corporation, should be covered by underground drainage and efforts taken to fill up the Vandiyur lake and Mariamman Teppakulam.

Calling for improving the facilities in Corporation schools, the association said that an entrepreneurship development programme should be conducted in these schools for students of the vocational stream. The Corporation should also consider issuing licences for starting new industrial units in the existing and expanded areas to make Madurai an industrial city.
