Former DMK minister gets bail

Former DMK minister Thangam Thennarasu appeared before the district court here on Thursday and obtained bail in disproportionate assets case.

Mr. Thennarasu and his wife T. Manimegalai were named in a charge sheet filed by the vigilance and anti-corruption wing officials of Virudhunagar at a special court for vigilance and anti-corruption cases here accusing them of acquiring disproportionate assets during his tenure as the minister from 2006 to 2010.

The ex-minister and his wife reportedly had unaccountable money worth nearly Rs. 75 lakh, officials said. Mrs Manimegalai’s counsel claimed that she did not receive the summons and hence the judge ordered issue of fresh summons to her and adjourned the case to March 27. — Staff Reporter
