Coimbatore: Former Bishop of the Coimbatore Diocese of the Church of South India, Manickam Durai was arrested by the Gudalur police through a warrant issued by the Gudalur Judicial Magistrate following his non-appearance before the court in connection with a case of criminal intimidation.
Manickam Durai is already facing a case of alleged misappropriation of funds of the diocese to a tune of Rs. 3 crore and is under investigation by the CB-CID.
Following the case, the Chief Bishop and Moderator had asked Manickam Durai to proceed on leave.
Bishop of Tiruchi Diocese Paul Vasanthakumar is holding additional charge of the Coimbatore Diocese.
Meanwhile, a case of alleged criminal intimidation filed by a priest Kaviaraj of Gudalur came up for hearing before the Gudalur Judicial Magistrate Court.
Owing to non-appearance before the court, the Gudalur Judicial Magistrate issued a warrant.
Gudalur Police on Saturday morning executed the warrant and arrested Manickam Durai for producing him before the Magistrate.
