The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board has requested the public to celebrate Vinayaka Chaturthi on Monday in an environment-friendly manner. In a press release here, it has asked residents to avoid immersion of painted Ganesha idols in water bodies as it results in water pollution. Idols made of raw clay and made without any chemicals can be safely immersed in water bodies. The release said that idols should be taken at least 500 m into the sea and immersed at spots identified by the government.
