The Chennai Corporation on Tuesday conducted raids on shops on the Marina Beach and seized food products, packaged drinking water and soft drinks of substandard quality.
Corporation Health Officer P. Kuganantham said that around 30 shops were found selling such products. “We have taken the samples to our laboratory for analyses. Such raids will continue till the end of summer,” he added.
“The spurious drinks have remarkably come down in the area following raids in the city,” he said. Over 25 employees of the Health Department took part in the raid. Large quantities food products, including fried fish, were seized. The vendors had used oil of poor quality. Nearly 25 kg of other fried products of substandard quality were seized and destroyed.
