Fodder cultivation is to be taken up in about 700 acres with irrigation facilities in the district. According to a release from T. Munusamy, Collector, fodder sorghum is proposed in the delta region to overcome the dry fodder shortage during the ensuing months.

The objective is to make sufficient fodder available at the village level so that unnecessary transportation of the fodder can be avoided and panic is not caused due to shortage of fodder at the village level. Besides, it could help avoid distress sale of the livestock. Fifty per cent subsidy will be provided on the total cost of cultivation or Rs. 6,800 an acre, which ever is lesser.
