Schools should lay more emphasis on promoting values. This was stressed at a May Day meeting of the Tamil Nadu Graduate Teachers Association, the Nilgiris chapter, held here. Stating that moral classes should be conducted regularly, the participants said that even counselling sessions should be organised. Yoga teachers should be appointed to make the students physically and mentally strong. Social protection should be given to teachers. The meeting resolved to condemn the attitude of some of the aided schools which allegedly treated their teachers like slaves and forced them to report for work even during the Summer holidays. They expressed concern over some of the aided schools conducting special classes for girls even up to 8.30 p.m. The services of teachers working for a consolidated salary should be regularised.
