TIRUNELVELI: To create awareness among farmers of natural farming techniques and encourage them to go for harmless agricultural practices, a regional-level workshop on `natural farming' was organised here on Thursday.

Experts in biofarming and leading farmers of the district, who practice this technique in their fields in a big way, trained the participants from Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Tuticorin, Virudhunagar, Sivaganga, Theni and Ramanathapuram. Special emphasis was on the preparation of vermicompost, `panchakavyam' and `navakavyam'.

The Dean, Agriculture College and Research Institute, Killikulam, Vivekanandan, faculty members of the college, I. Sundarsingh Rajapandian, T. Jawahar, M.A.K. Pillai, Agricultural Officers, Department of Agriculture, Mahalingam, Senthilvel Murugan, Murugesh and Ramesh Babu gave lectures on various features of natural farming, which is gradually spreading its wings in the district.

Leading `natural farmers' of the district Antony Samy, S. Muthiah and V. Varadharajan shared their experience on `natural farming,' "which revolutionised the yield of their farm produce."
