Over 300 professionals attended the meeting

They were all below the age of 35

COIMBATORE: Priority areas for the country to focus on, pollution problem faced by the textile units in the region, and strengths and weakness of India were some of the issues that the young professionals here raised during a “Young Professionals Meet” with the All India Congress Committee General Secretary Rahul Gandhi. Over 300 professionals, all aged below 35, from different sectors had an interactive session with Mr. Gandhi for almost an hour here on Thursday evening on a range of subjects.

India should become a centre of knowledge, Mr. Gandhi said. Education was one of the areas that needed focus. It should be available to all and should meet the demands of the industry. Compared to countries such as the United States or the United Kingdom, the cost of education was low in India, he pointed out. The country’s strengths were the dynamism and energy of the people. It was important to develop systems to free business, he said. One of the participants suggested setting up of a centre of excellence for politicians. Mr. Gandhi spoke about the need for professionals to be involved in the political system.
