KANCHEEPURAM: A flyover will be constructed at the Oragadam junction at a cost of Rs.20 crore near the upcoming SIPCOT Industrial Estate, according to Highways and Ports Minister Vellakoil M.P. Saminathan.

It will come up on Vandalur-Wallajahbad Road for the convenience of goods carriers on the Singaperumal Koil-Sriperumpudur Road passing through the junction.

Talking to reporters after inspecting the four-lane conversion of the Vandalur-Wallajahbad Road and the Singaperumal Koil-Sriperumbudur Road , he said it was also proposed to convert the 12-km stretch between the Oragadam junction and Sriperumpudur of the Singaperumal Koil-Sriperumbudur Road into a six-lane carriageway.

The Highways Department, in coordination with the Kancheepuram district administration, has initiated the land acquisition process .

Stating that a total of 166 culverts were to be constructed and extended on both the roads, which were being converted from two lanes (Vandalur-Wallajahbad Road) and single lane (Singaperumal Koil-Sriperumbudur Road) into four-lane carriageways, Mr. Saminathan said that nearly 15 per cent of total number of culverts had been constructed so far.
