A five-year-old spastic boy was abandoned on the campus of Theni Government Medical College Hospital here on Wednesday. The boy was under treatment in the special ward, according to sources in the hospital.

Meanwhile, the social welfare department officials are in search of a NGO to take care of the child after treatment. Sources said that many NGOs have expressed their inability to provide asylum as they did not have facilities to handle special children.

However, negotiations are underway to make aNGO adopt the child.

Hospital authorities were puzzled as they never received such a grown up child till now.

The incident was neither noticed by the security nor was recorded in the CCTV camera in the hospital.

The PHCs and taluk hospitals had been receiving hundreds of new born babies under one year of age in the Cradle Baby Scheme across the district.
