Krishnagiri: Five transport corporations in the State have reached self-sufficiency in terms of revenue while Madurai and Coimbatore Corporations were looking forward for assistance from the Government, said Minister for Transport K.N. Nehru here on Friday.

Inaugurating a new bus stand at Veppanapalli, the Minister said the State Express Transport Corporation had also reached self-sufficiency in terms of revenue. During the previous DMK Government, a total of 10,600 buses were inducted into the fleet as against 5,600 buses in the successive AIADMK Government.

Out of total of 17,200 buses in the State about 9,000 buses had to be replaced. The Government had allotted Rs. 550 crore to induct around 2,230 new buses in the fleet. More than 500 new bus routes had been introduced since the DMK Government came to power. Steps would be initiated to construct a motel on the NH-7 between Krishnagiri and Hosur, he said.

Mr. Nehru said the Government had initiated steps to provide employment to 1,100 workers in various corporations in the State. With a Special Economic Zone and two Information Technology Parks on the anvil in Hosur, the district would witness tremendous growth in the next 10 years. Efforts would be taken to introduce new bus routes in Hosur and Thally regions in Krishnagiri district.

The Minister also inaugurated bus routes between Hosur-Harur, Veppanapalli-Chennai, Hogenakkal-Puducherry and Berigai-Maarandahalli.

Collector Santhosh Babu said the administration would identify lands within a week for the construction of the motel.
