Five designers have made a foray into the Chennai market through the ongoing Chennai International Fashion Week.

The designers Shaahid Amir, Lakshmi Jagmohan, Abhishek Kochhar, Charu Parashar and Rashita Sehra have designed a range of trendy couture for the week-long fashion extravaganza being held at Hotel Le Royal Meridien, till July 11.

The designs of Lakshmi Jagmohan, which highlight the rich heritage of Indian embroidery such as zardosi, crystals, intricate motifs, and aari, were showcased by models on Thursday.

Abhishek Kocchar, who has his own brand ‘House of Attuendo,' draws inspiration from the crafts of medieval era and forgotten Indian arts. His designs, too, were on the ramp on Thursday.

Shaahid Amir has a diverse line, especially bridal ensembles.

His creations for brides and grooms are a hit across the world. His collections will be the highlight of the programme on Friday. For the first time, the Fashion Week will have a Men's Wear Day on Friday, which will have an exclusive collection of men's wear.

Charu Parashar, whose designs were displayed on the opening day of the event, is a ‘new generation' designer, who has a signature style of merging finest structured textile-print with rich detailing using the centuries-old Indian craftsmanship.

Rashita Sehra, a New Delhi-based designer, specialises on women clothing, with a focus on balancing Western and Indian flavour. Her designs were also part of the first day programme.

These upcoming designers are among the 30 international designers from five countries at the Chennai International Fashion Week.

The event is produced by Storm Fashion and Media Mix Innovative Promotions are co-organisers of the event.
