Fishermen threaten to seek asylum in SL

Fishermen from five districts of Ramanathapuram, Nagapattinam, Karaikal, Pudukottai, and Thanjavur have proposed to seek asylum in Sri Lanka, if the Centre and the State Governments fail to secure the release of the arrested fishermen by September 25.

They would head into the Sri Lankan territorial waters with white flags on their boats on September 27, if no headway is made on their demand, the fishermen resolved at a joint meeting at Akkaraipettai.

  • To sail into Lankan waters with white flags on boats on Sep 25

  • If grievances are unresolved, they will boycott 2014 LS polls
