The district fishermen have proposed to stage a blockade of the collectorate on February 4, in a bid to “call attention” of the State government to their now halted diesel subsidy. In the wake of the Central government’s diesel price hike, the diesel costs of fishing boats had gone up by Rs.11.83, after the State government stalling its subsidy for fishing boats. Fisherfolk on Thursday, were already into the seventh day of their strike, demanding a solution from the government. However, with no visible solution to break the impasse, fishing hamlets on Thursday announced their move to stage a blockade of the collectorate. According to them, this was a bid to ‘call attention’ of the State government.
